Great Duck Island

Great Duck Island (GDI) is a 220 acre island, shared by College of the Atlantic, the Nature Conservancy, the State of Maine, and a private resident. College of the Atlantic owns 12 acres, including the original lighthouse-station property. The station was renamed the Alice Eno Field Research Station in honor of a longstanding trustee of the College.

Great Duck Island supports some of the largest breeding populations of Leach’s Storm Petrels and Black Guillemonts in the continental U.S. Petrels, Guillemonts, Herring Gulls, and Black-backed Gulls are the subject of most research on GDI. The research center is supervised by John Anderson.
